A Brief Post-Holiday Update

It’s been quite awhile since our last post, due to various activities, experiences, and discussions.  Once Sophie came home from camp and completed her previous cycle of chemo, the doctors booked her for a set of scans in early September to determine next steps for treatment.

We were fortunate to receive positive news from Sophie’s scan results; all scans came back free of disease at this point in time.  Despite this news, Sophie’s medical team determined it would be best to continue with an additional 3 rounds of chemo treatment, in order to hopefully ensure further clear scans for the future.  Sophie completed her 1st of 3 last rounds of chemo in her overall current treatment plan a couple of weeks ago. The team was creative in scheduling our chemo this time, and was able to have us come in on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday for treatment.  They sent us home with a fluid backpack on Tuesday evening which would take us through until Thursday, and let us be home for Yom Kippur, which was a nice reprieve for the holiday.

On a separate note, Sophie’s doctors gave us permission to enroll her in school for the upcoming year.  Although she has only attended a few days here and there due to her chemo schedule, thus far she is loving her time with her friends and teachers.  Over the course of the rest of the next 2 cycles of chemo, Sophie will be able to attend school every 3rd or so week, and we will continue home instruction as well when she is able to (similar to what we’ve done in the past).

Finally, the best experience we’ve had over the last few weeks is attending Sophie’s cousin’s bar mitzvah in Florida!  Given the uncertainty surrounding Sophie’s treatment, we were not confirmed to attend until the very last minute, but were fortunate to be able to all travel as a family and spend the weekend with the Bloom family for Tzvi’s bar mitzvah.  Sophie had an absolute blast playing with all of her cousins, and we felt so grateful that everyone’s health was good enough to partake in such a special occasion.

We will continue to provide updates as we can.
