Completed another Round

It’s  crazy to think that it’s been exactly 4 weeks since Sophie’s surgery.  On the one hand, it feels like just yesterday; on the other it feels like years ago.  A lot has happened over the last few weeks. As we mentioned in our previous post, Sophie was discharged one week post-surgery from MSK.  She continued to recover at home, but at a slow pace. Each day brought on a new set of challenges, including less energy, frequent outpatient hospital visits, but also some fun time with friends and family.

On Thursday, July 26th, Sophie had her post-surgical check up with our surgical team, who gave us the go-ahead to begin her next round of chemo.  Although soon after surgery, Sophie started her next chemo cycle again on Monday, July 23rd, and continued for the 5 days (as we’d done previously as well)  Given the short length of time between surgery and chemo, this particular week took a significant toll on both her energy levels and her body, and she had a more difficult time than some previous cycles.  However, we were fortunate to see her perk up a bit toward the end of the week, and moving into last weekend.

We have been fortunate to spend time fruit picking, swimming and bbq’ing over the last week, and Sophie has continued to improve each day.  She is almost back to her normal bubbly self, although with noticeably lower energy levels than before surgery. We are told this is normal, and she will continue to build back to her regular self over the coming weeks.

For now, we are taking it one day at a time and enjoying the summer when we can, interspersed with our hospital check-ins.

Hope this latest treatment brings Sophie the cure you are looking for. Saw her in the camp Simcha arrival photos. Is she up there for a bit? Anny is there for her last summer. As she has always said, it’s the best camp you never want to get in to. Thanks for all the updates. Sophie is always on our minds and in our tefillot
